Another common stream side salamander here in Clifton. Related to the Long tail Salamander. This one was photographed near the rail road bridge crossing Popes Head Creek in the 8 acre park.

Civil War Bullet
Receding water levels in nearby creeks caused by the lack of rain provide interesting clues into Clifton’s history. Revealed for the first time in a 145 years lay a single, fired, Civil War bullet. How did it get there? Was it delibertly fired into the creek by a bored soldier serving picket duty? Or, maybe it missed its intended target as Union troops and Rebel marauders skirmished along the rail road.
Fishing at Hemlock Overlook
During the month of June and July Alex and I spent several evenings fishing along the banks of Bull Run in the vicinity of Hemlock Overlook. These photos are of Alex and I with some of our catches of the day. The yellow perch I am holding was caught using one of my favorite artificial baits a Mepps Aglia spinner #2. Alex has his own method a jighead and a bobber which landed several decent sized channel catfish like the one shown here.
