Black Rat Snake Recovery Walney Road Chantilly Va

Monday, May 25th, 2009

A concerend Chantilly resident  asked that I come to his home to capture a snake he said was crawling around in his back yard. The snake, a young black rat, was underneath the steps (background in the photo).  Snake was captured and released unharmed and the home owner graciously provided me with this pic.

Mother Mallard Clifton 8 Acre Park

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

The artificially created vernal pool, remnant of the Orange And Alexanderia Rail Raod bed, provides great cover to this  mother mallard and her chicks shown here lying perfectly still.  Perhaps a defensive behavior to avoid being detected by predators. DSC_0200

Lady Slipper Wild Orchid Yatesford Road Clifton, VA

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

This Lady Slipper Orchid was discovered by my wife Margo.  Unfortunately I didn’t have a decent shot of this flower nor adequate photo equipment. The pics simply do not do this flower justice.
