A concerend Chantilly resident asked that I come to his home to capture a snake he said was crawling around in his back yard. The snake, a young black rat, was underneath the steps (background in the photo). Snake was captured and released unharmed and the home owner graciously provided me with this pic.

The artificially created vernal pool, remnant of the Orange And Alexanderia Rail Raod bed, provides great cover to this mother mallard and her chicks shown here lying perfectly still. Perhaps a defensive behavior to avoid being detected by predators.

This Lady Slipper Orchid was discovered by my wife Margo. Unfortunately I didn’t have a decent shot of this flower nor adequate photo equipment. The pics simply do not do this flower justice.
